Welcome Traffic Crusaders
Transforming Marblehead Mobility
Maybe you’ve come here via the muddy Marblehead Rail Trail. Or you’ve been trying to find a Safe Route to School. Or perhaps you’re lost. You’ve been e‑biking around town trying to reach the Complete Streets promised by the Select Board three years ago and never built.
However you’ve arrived, by whatever mode or route, you’ve come to the right place. And, you’ve taken an important step (perhaps your first) in bringing about the kind of mobility system we all want (if those who don’t know it yet).
For the moment, I ask your patience. In the coming weeks, this page and other outlets will provide education and calls to action. It will connect and empower you to help the town of Marblehead fulfill the commitments it has already made and ultimately change the way we travel around this tiny, four-square-mile town.
About Me: I hold a PhD in History from the University of Michigan where I wrote my dissertation on the history of traffic safety from the 1890s to 1966. I have written numerous academic and popular articles on the subject and you can find my book on the home page of this website: danalbert.com.
We have lived in Marblehead since 2008, having moved from London, where I was the curator of the transportation collections at the National Museum of Science and Industry. We moved here when I started teaching at Salem State. I have since retired from teaching and, other than my current writing projects and a couple of mornings a week teaching driver education, I have made fixing mobility in Marblehead my full time job.
Let’s get started.
